WoW Class Breakdown: Shamans

Shamans like the Druid Class is an hybrid and the only two which are hybrid in WoW. Shamans have the same spec differences as Druid, and can either choose to either heal as their primary role, do caster Dps, or do melee dps (can’t do this in Areans).

Restoration (Healing) and Elemental (Caster) Shamans bring the following vital assets to an Arena team: Heroism, Totems, and Purging.

The deployment of Totems is unique to the Shaman class. Each totem they deploy have unique abilities of their own. The most popular Totems are:

  • Tremor Totem: will remove Fear/Charm effects from team members.
  • Wind Fury Totem: gives chance to grant extra attacks in melee: excellent for Warriors
  • Grounding Totem: absorbs spells shot at team members
  • Poison Totem: gives real great buffs to team mates and give one of the best chances of turning the tide during Arena matches.

Shamans also have the skill
to cast a huge buff once in every arena. Heroism boosts every
teammate’s casting/attack/healing speed by 30%, which is very helpful. During a crucial part of a fight,
Heroism
can easily turn the tide
.

Purge is the last ability
that all Shamans can take to an Arena match. What purging does is to zap any beneficial effects of the opposing team. When you remove buffs from your adversaries, you can really make the team more lethal and effective. This is a great ability that only Shamans can bring to the table in Arenas.

In a 5v5 team Elemental Shamans have become one of the most popular casters due to the great chemistry they provide. They have the ability to put out very huge burst Dps (only Fire Mages can rival this) and it is something that can and will bring down an opponent fast. Elemental Shamans can also off-heal, which removes some of the pressure from other healers while fighting in intense parts of a match. Take their ability to pop Purge/Heroisn and drop Totems and you have all the reasons you need why in 5v5 teams having a Shaman is a must.
